the holy banana

once
god created the banana
for no particular reason at all
it grew and grew
and god saw that it was good

but then
came humankind
picked the banana and ate it
so god grew angry
and furiously spoke thusly:

man
thou destroyest my creation
with thy bowels
useless creature that thou art
therefore
thou willst be banned from paradise
as of now
thou art not worthy of living under my roof
from now on
thou shalt work
by the sweat of thy brow
and makest thyself
all that thou cravest for
so that thou shalt see
besides pleasure and delight
bitter hardship too
this is to be thy righteous punishment
for in thy haughtiness
thou wanted to be the equal of mine

man
however
said
thank you very much
and left for good
with no regrets
for it was deadly boring in paradise anyway

die heilige banane

einst
schuf gott die banane
zu keinem bestimmten zwecke
sie wuchs und wuchs
und gedieh ganz prächtig
und gott sah, dass es gut war

doch
als der mensch
die banane pflückte
da stieg ihm
die zornesröthe ins gesicht
und er sprach:

mensch
du zerstörest mein lebenswerk
mit deinem magen:
du verdorbene creatur!
ich will dich verjagen
aus meinem paradies
denn du bist nicht würdig einzugehen unter mein dach!
hinfort sollest du
im schweisse deines angesichts
die dinge schaffen und erschaffen
derer dich gelüstet
damit du erkennst
ausser dem genusse
auch die mühsal!
diese strafe, mensch, sei dir auferlegt
denn ebenbürtig wolltest du mir sein

der mensch aber
dankte ihm
und ging
denn furchtbar quälte ihn
die langeweile im paradies
